The research is clear: cell phones are a MAJOR distraction on school campuses, and I can attest that they have also been here at Le Grand Elementary. To continue our efforts in making Le Grand Elementary as safe and free of negative distractions as possible, we have decided to implement the Yondr program in 6th-8th grades.

What is Yondr?

Upon arrival at school, scholars will place their phones (turned off or airplane mode) inside a Yondr pouch. Once inside the pouch, they will lock the pouch and keep their phone in their possession at all times. They will be given access to their phone upon exiting the campus by tapping their pouch on an unlocking base located in the front office and/or room 21.

Cell Phone Policy Update

If a staff member sees a scholar using their phone while on campus it will be confiscated and brought to the office for the parent/guardian to pick up. No warnings will be given. If a scholar loses or damages their Yondr pouch, they will be responsible for replacing it at the cost of $35. If scholars do not want to participate in the Yondr program, they may keep their phones at home.

What if there is an emergency?

We understand that cell phones have allowed us to maintain continuous access and communication with our children. In the case of an emergency parents/guardians may contact the school and scholars will also be allowed to use school phones if they need to contact their parents/guardians.

We sincerely appreciate your support in the successful implementation of this new program at Le Grand Elementary. As you think of questions, please write them down and either come speak to me directly during Back-to-School Night, or schedule an appointment to come and visit me in the office.
