My name is Mrs. Cordoza, and I teach 7th and 8th grade Math. I have been teaching since 1998, and have been at Le Grand Elementary since 2002. ‚ÄčI am married with 3 children. I enjoy traveling with my family, camping, reading, and following baseball. My family's favorite team is the San Francisco Giants! My children are active in community sports and our local 4-H club.

Students in Junior High math class are working hard to master the new Common Core State Standards. One tool that is new in class this year is the use of an Interactive Math Journal. Students use graphic organizers and their creativity to help them create a journal that is an effective study tool, and shows evidence of mastery of a concept. Additionally, I am the Academic Pentathlon Coach for 8th grade. Each year, we participate in a county-wide academic competition covering four subjects. Students on the team work hard, studying extra curriculum on top of their regular studies. Our students are often rewarded with medals and trophies recognizing their hard work and effort!

I love being an 8th grade homeroom teacher. It's a very busy year, full of activities to prepare them for high school, as well as year-end celebrations. One of my favorite events that 8th grade participates in is our annual Mother's Tea. Each year, we perform dances, plays and poetry for the mothers that are all based on a specific theme. I am always proud to see the students' confidence grow, and the pride on their faces as they perform for their mothers. Graduation is always a fun time of year. After all of our teachers and staff have worked hard teaching and nurturing these students from the time they were in kindergarten, its a little bittersweet to send them off to high school! We end our school year with a celebratory trip to Great America, where many fun memories are made!
